LOCATION: MRF Tajiguas Landfill FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:
Non-exempt, hourly PREPARED DATE: January 2020 REPORTS TO:
Maintenance Supervisor DIRECT REPORTS: None POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operation of equipment
located
inside the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This includes ensuring
proper preventative maintenance inspections and troubleshooting on
engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production
machines. The plant mechanic must be able to accurately follow
diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer's instructions,
and engineering specifications. Position is to ensure functionality
and reliability of heavy equipment, conveyors, screens,
shredders, and facility building. A TYPICAL DAY: This is not just a

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the
following: - Performs planned maintenance inspection (PM);
diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment/components including
but not limited to balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy
currents, electro-magnetic belts, optical sorters, diverters,
compressors, trash compactors, motors, glass breakers, wire tie
systems, fans,
pumps, forklifts, front-end loaders and building equipment. - Make
necessary repairs to plant production equipment and support
equipment as required. - Maintain inventory control of maintenance
repair parts. Must be able and willing to work with outside vendors
as it
pertains to troubleshooting and repairing any and all equipment
necessary to our operation. - Schedule and set priorities for
maintenance and repair work on equipment. Establishes and adjusts
work procedures to meet production. - Make initial inspection on
equipment to be repaired and diagnose defects. - Generate work
orders and evaluate repair work on its completion. - Perform highly
technical work on hydraulic systems, fabrication projects, and
rebuilding assignments. - Locate, correct and adjust defects in
light and heavy duty vehicular and mechanical equipment. - Adapt
available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems. -
Read and interpret and work from sketches, diagrams, and electrical
schematics. - Acts as a lead worker by regularly instructing and
directing others by assigning, reviewing and checking work. -
Inspects the quality of third-party repairs and or rebuilds. -
Recommends measures to improve production, equipment performance
and product quality - Performs service calls for emergency
breakdowns. - Requires a flexible work schedule, which may include
nights and weekends to support operating schedule and the needs of
the facility. - Manage facilities improvements with contractors -
Work with building management to resolve any issues - Occasionally
run small errands - Help make this a fun place to work. - Perform
all other duties as assigned in a professional and efficient

RESPONSIBILITIES: None. CORE COMPETENCIES:
trade or discipline (e.g. welding, millwright, mechanics), but will
have a functioning ability level in multiple areas. - Must have
knowledge/skills to be able to work on Conveyor belts and Motors
that drive the belts. - Trained on all needed hand tools to
complete the following tasks - Able to trouble shoot hydraulic
issues on the BALER and optical sorter - Able to replace baler
knifes on the BALER - Able to replace STADLER bearings and shafts -
Able to replace all components on the screens (Shafts, bearings,
chains and sprockets) - Able to replace OPTICAL SORTER BELTS (Using
the belt press) - Able to TORCH CUT using a GAS TORCH - Able to
replace all components on all conveyors - Able to safely and
efficiently lead a crew of maintenance mechanics to complete any of
the tasks from stage 1, 2, and 3 - Principles of automotive repairs
and preventative maintenance. - Ability to multi-task and manage
multiple priorities. - Valid drivers license. - Ability to perform
under limited supervision. - Ability to recognize routine
mechanical difficulties and malfunctions. - Ability to use of
variety hand, power tools, and equipment. - Ability to always work
safely and institute safe work practices. - Ability to work as part
of a team. EDUCATION:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Minimum of 5
years of mechanic service and repair experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE
SKILLS: Position requires excellent verbal and written English
communication skills including; ability to read, comprehend,
analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure
manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the
general public. Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such
as ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal
with a variety of concrete variables in situations
where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a
variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or
schedule form. CERTIFICATIONS: None. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical

protective outfits, like gloves, safety footwear, and hardhat.
